The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is hosting Emerge– a 3 day Latino leadership conference located in Washington D.C. that provides college students with public policy briefings on public health, education, and immigration. At the conference, students also participate in a career fair where they can explore job opportunities (e.g. non-profit, government). In addition, attendees receive training in civic engagement, advocacy, and program coordination.
If you are interested in attending the conference, but do not have the financial means to cover your own travel expenses, make sure to apply to the LULAC Emerge Travel scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship committee is to find motivated students who are interested in learning about the current state of affairs of the Latino community in the US, as well as to increase the diversity of students from various Universities attending the conference. The scholarship will provide transportation (flights, train, or gas) and lodging expenses of up to $850.
LULAC will award 10 scholarships of up to $850 on the basis of a comprehensive and competitive process. Scholarships will be awarded to college students on a point system, taking into account the following elements: completed application, academic accomplishments, community services, personal essays, resume, and a cover letter.
Who qualifies?
- Applicant must be a college student enrolled in an accredited two-or-four-year college, university, or technical school
- Applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
- LULAC Collegiate members are strongly encouraged to apply
- Applicants must complete and submit Scholarship Application and supporting documents by Friday, December 4, 2015
