The Center for Excellent in School Counseling and Leadership (CESCaL) is hosting the first annual Supporting Access to Higher Education for Immigrant and Undocumented Students conference. CESCaL believes that it is crucial for school counselors and college access partners to advocate for immigrant students. They also seek to establish a foundation of best practices that can be utilized by professionals who work with students and the communities they serve.
The conference kickoff and awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday April 27th from 5:00 to 8:00pm. On Thursday April 28th, there will be keynote speakers, expert panels, and workshops from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Here are the goals for this year’s conference:
- Gain knowledge of laws and rights of immigrant and undocumented students and resources for students and families.
- Instill the desire to take personal responsibility as advocates for immigrant and undocumented students.
- Develop the skills to navigate the college application process, locate funding options, access post-secondary opportunities, and utilize culturally competent techniques to mentor, counsel and advise future college candidates.
