The National Hispanic Health Foundation announced this year’s national scholarship program, which is open to students who are committed to careers in health care and enrolled full-time in dental, medical, nursing, pharmacy, public health, and policy schools. The Foundation will award 21 scholarships this year. 11 scholars will receive a 2 year scholarship for $5,000 per year. 10 scholars will receive a 1 year scholarship for $2,000.
You do not have to be a U.S. Citizen to qualify for this scholarship. Under their FAQ, NHHF notes that “U.S. Citizens, permanent lawful residents, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are eligible to apply“.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be enrolled full time in the following accredited graduate programs: Dental, Medical (allopathic or osteopathic), Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health or Health Policy.
- Eligible students must be enrolled full time for the 2016-17 academic year. NHHF will not consider any health professions not listed above. High school and undergraduate students are NOT eligible for this scholarship except for BSN students.
- Have a 3.0 GPA or above
- Demonstrate exceptional academic performance, documented leadership activities, and have a commitment to a career providing healthcare services to the Hispanic community in the US
Please note that applicants are not required to be Hispanic; an affinity for the health of Hispanic communities and an interest in participating in NHHF Scholars Alumni activities is required.
