The University of California, Merced is hiring a coordinator to work with undocumented students. The coordinator will be in charge of providing “counseling and advising to targeted students, with a focus on the needs of Undocumented students eligible under AB 540, AB 130, AB 131, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals; and immigrant students.” Salary for this position ranges from $41,100 to $55,000.
To qualify for this job opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three years of related experience.
- Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human, student and career development.
- Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
- Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement and learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.
- Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.
- Knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies pertaining to handling student records and confidential documents.
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
- Knowledge and familiarity with current and/or developing trends in state or national policies related to undocumented communities.
