2024 Summer Enrichment Program in Health Equity and Leadership Training in Healthcare and Public Health: Open to Undocumented College Students with DACA

The University of Michigan is hosting the Summer Enrichment Program in Health Equity and Leadership Training in Healthcare and Public Health (SEP-HEALTHSpark) over the summer. This 6-week program provides students with the opportunity to learn more about careers in health care, as well as in community and public health. Those selected to participate in this program receive housing and funds to cover food costs for the duration of the program, as well as round-trip travel costs and a $3,750 stipend. Program participants also receive field experience, mentorship, workshops, and more.

These are the eligibility requirements:

  • ​”U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (DACA students are eligible to apply)
  • Entering your junior or senior year of undergraduate study in the Fall following the program
  • A 2.8 minimum grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • Interest in pursuing a career in public health/health management and policy
  • Demonstrate one or more of the following criteria:
    • You or a member of your family have been adversely affected by health inequalities related to: a) systemic failures of the social or physical environment; or, b) inequities in the US health care system
    • You live in a community or area that is adversely affected by health inequalities – that is, an urban or rural area whose residents have low health status or who are underserved by the health care system.
    • You have experience working in organizations that address health inequalities, such as local health departments, community health centers, inner city/rural hospitals, or entities that conduct research on or develop policy related to health disparities.”

The deadline to apply is February 28, 2024.
