Greenlining Legal/Policy Programs: Open to undocumented students with DACA

The Greenlining Institute is a policy, research, organizing, and leadership institute working for racial and economic justice. The Institute works on a variety of major policy issues, from the economy to environmental policy, civic engagement and many others. They have a number of fellowship opportunities that are open to undocumented students with DACA.

1) Summer Associate Program: This is an intensive development program and learning community for young leaders. Associates are assigned to a Greenlining policy team and complete a research and advocacy capstone project with the direction of a Greenlining staff member. Associates participate in leadership discussions and skills building workshops, and conduct site visits to community, government, and corporate entities. Associates receive mentorship and coaching, and are given opportunities to interact with the media, write reports, blog, balance multiple priorities, testify at key policy meetings, and participate in meetings with top government officials, corporate leaders, and community leaders.

To apply, you must submit the following:

  • Personal statement (see online application for guidelines)
  • Resume with three references
  • One letter of recommendation (must be uploaded with entire application package)

Basic Qualifications: Completed undergraduate degree by program start date.
Compensation: $4750 total stipend for 10 weeks

The deadline for this program is on January 28, 2016

2) Legal Fellowship: This a year-long training program for leaders who have recently completed law school and attained their Juris Doctor by the start of the program. Legal Fellows will be assigned to either the Energy, Telecommunications and Technology, or Environmental Equity programs, and will develop expertise in those areas under the direction and guidance of Greenlining’s legal team and the Academy Director. Each year’s issue agenda is a little different: please see the program page links for an idea of what issues each program has been working on recently.

To apply, you must submit the following:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume with three references

The deadline for this program is on February 4, 2016

Basic Qualifications: Completed law degree or admittance to California Bar in 2016
Compensation: $42,400-$50,000 per year/Health Benefits Included + up to $2000 reimbursement for Bar

3) Policy Fellowship: This is a year-long training program for young leaders who have completed, at minimum, their undergraduate degrees by the start of the program. Fellows are assigned to specific program areas and develop expertise with the direction of a Program Manager and the Academy Director. Fellows participate in leadership and skills development workshops, attend meetings with key stakeholders, and conduct site visits to community, government, and corporate entities. Fellows receive regular mentorship, professional and personal skill development, and are given opportunities to interact with the media, write reports/press releases, fundraise, testify at policy hearings, and participate in key meetings with top government officials, corporate CEOs, and political leaders.

To apply, you must submit the following:

  • Resume with three references
  • One letter of recommendation (must be uploaded with entire application package)

Basic Qualifications: Completed undergraduate degree by program start date
Compensation: $37,500-$40,000 per year/Health Benefits Included
