The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, the Cien Amigos civic group and the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, with the support of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) launched the Cien Amigos IME Scholarship Fund to support Mexican-origin and Latino students in California in their pursuit of a higher education. This year, they are awarding scholarships of $300 to high school juniors and $1,000 to high school seniors and college students. AB 540 students are encouraged to apply.
If you are a high school senior or college student, here are the eligibility requirements:
- Be a College/University undergraduate student or a High School senior with a College/University letter of acceptance.
- Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (weighted/cumulative).
- Comply with the residence requirement, within the Northern California eligible counties*, based on only one of the following: Applicant must live/study High School/University/College within eligible counties. University/College must be located within eligible counties. Applicant’s parents must live within eligible counties.
High school juniors must meet the following requirements:
- Be a High School junior student who requires financial support to submit College applications, buy SAT materials, pay College Board enrollments or take preparatory courses to enter College.
- Have a High School Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (weighted).
- Comply with the residence requirement, within the Northern California eligible counties*, based on only one of the following: Applicant must live/study High School/University/College within eligible counties. University/College must be located within eligible counties. Applicant’s parents must live within eligible counties.
*Eligible counties: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquín, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba
